Amtrak machinist known as pigeon man shoots at least five at Wilmington repair shop

Richard D Herr, 40, opened fire inside the Amtrak locomotive repair shop in Wilmington, killing foreman John M Jensen and wounding two others before police fatally shot him. Authorities say he fired at least 15 rounds from a 9 mm pistol, then fell after being shot at a catwalk.

Fairfield school project eyed at 19 million expansion

The Thursday Act 34 hearing drew about a dozen residents to discuss a 19.3 million plan to enlarge the Fairfield Area School Complex. Middle high facilities will gain 13 classrooms and a new special ed room while the elementary school adds nine classrooms and a 5,000 square foot multipurpose space. Infrastructure upgrades, plus a 6 mill tax increase phased over four years, aim to cover costs.
