Miller Sheriff avoids charges over seized weapons case

Adams County Sheriff Bernard Miller will not face criminal charges over allegedly failing to destroy confiscated firearms. The Attorney General's Office cited lack of proof of criminal intent and noted transfers were to law enforcement or court personnel, with court orders not violated and no personal gain by Miller. The probe, spurred by police and FBI inquiries, could lead to charges if similar actions recur.

Court won't hear Heiges Masonry appeal in Adams County case

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court refused to hear Ronald T. Heiges and Heiges Masonry Inc. of Gettysburg in a dispute over a nearly $17,000 contract to seal the Adams County Courthouse. The Commonwealth Court previously dismissal for improper procedure. the case centers on bid requirements and maintenance of public works.

Adams County Child Services grew to aid families and reunite

Mrs. Camac, retiring administrator of Adams County Youth and Children’s Services, recalls a shift from a three person agency to a 20 member team focused on keeping families together. The program expanded from safeguarding children to counseling, foster care, adoption support, and interagency services, including a sheltered care unit created in 1979.

Gettysburg advances long-range school plan progress

Elaine Jones leads the Gettysburg Long Range Plan Augmented Advisory Council as John Burgess reports that the district has completed 65 of 154 recommendations from the 1979 84 plan, with 86 in progress and 24 not completed while 42 were deemed unnecessary. The plan involved 500 participants in nine committees, created to guide finances personnel and special education for nine schools.

Two East Berlin women die in Dover crash

Two East Berlin women died Wednesday when their car collided with another at Davidsburg and West Canal Roads in Dover. Sally J Zearfoss 35 and Sharon Kay Cressler 27 were pronounced dead at the scene. Resident Michael Paul 19 of Dover was hospitalized in stable condition and a 6 year old passenger Valarie Zeartess was in serious condition at York Hospital. Police said cause remains under investigation and details unreleased.
