Old Man Winter Delays Spring Across the North

The region endures another cold outbreak with a 16 degree low, the coldest since 1923, as highs struggle into the 30s and 40s. Snow flurries threaten again Thursday night into Friday, delaying spring warmth through the weekend and into next week. Horticulturalist Marshall Ritter of Pennsylvania State University says a heavy January winter kill mostly hit peach orchards, freezing trunk cambium and risking starved trees.
