Light Fixture Fire Destroys Kleffels Clothing Store
A four alarm blaze at Kleffels Clothing Store, 39 Baltimore St near the square, started in an overheated ballast in a ceiling fluorescent light fixture. The million-dollar fire left the popular store a total loss and forced evacuation of six residents as 170 firefighters from York and Adams counties battled the flames. At least 10 people were injured, including Helen Fed Kinsel, listed in serious condition after helicopter transport to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit.

Jogger credited with rescuing residents in Hanover fire
Randy Klein, a 26 year old Hanover resident jogging near the Myers Apartments, alerted and aided three elderly residents during a rapid house fire that engulfed the building. He re entered the flames to guide others to safety until firefighters arrived. The blaze destroyed the first floor clothing store and left six residents homeless, with repairs and salvage assessments ongoing.
