Winter storm causes county power outages and flooding

Heavy winds and rain knocked out power to about 1,000 York Springs area homes from Saturday afternoon to evening as downed lines and a transformer fuse failed. Firefighters pumped water from basements and supplied portable generators for Bermudian Springs High School’s South Pacific performance. A new storm moving from the Rockies is expected to intensify toward Kentucky and Virginia, bringing potential heavy snow across the state Monday night into Tuesday.

Two killed as car hits tree near Bendersville

Two Gettysburg area men died when a 1977 coupe skidded off the Bendersville Wenksville Road near Aspers and struck a tree. Driver Joel F. Garretson 23 and passenger William H. Yohe 20 were pronounced dead at the scene by Adams County Coroner Dr. Robert Lefever. The crash occurred around 4 a.m. Authorities sought a witness as firefighters from Bendersville and Biglerville aided the scene. Garretson was a Gettysburg native and tile company employee. Yohe was a Gettysburg High School graduate and student at Williamsport Community College. Funeral arrangements and memorials are noted.
