Mt Fein correspondent reports little rain from Wednesday to Tuesday with showers on Thursday through Saturday. Week began fine and warm then resumed rain causing boggy fields and delayed work. Early crops look well and May rainfall reached 78 points as trials continue with new wheat varieties and other crops.
Local railway worker W. T. Kendrick reeled in a rare swordfish nearly ten feet long at the town jetty. The creature drew crowds as it toured the Freemasons' Hotel and drew bets from visitors before Kendrick sent the specimen to the museum.
During a holiday game ten long term convicts escaped from the State penitentiary. They kidnapped a warder and two guards, seized two cars, and drove off with women believed to be hostages. Police pursued cautiously to avoid harming the captives.
The Far East reports that an armistice ending hostilities in Northern China was signed at Taku on the coast east of Tientsin at eleven o clock today.

In a Haz arday league match at Queen's Park Towns dominated Thistles. Dunn and Manning starred as Towns scored seven goals to Thistles one.
