Late News: Arrivals and Movements off Gibraltar
New York dispatch reports the brig Happy Couple from Wythe Gibraltar with 42 aged seamen, sailing with the Columbia toward Charleston in company with other armed vessels. On July 8 the U S frigate Essex under Bainbridge passed Cape Gat bound for Tunis, leaving behind at Gibraltar the Tripolitan admiral’s 28 gun ship and a 14 gun brig under Peter Lyle, a noted renegade. In approaching Gibraltar the Philadelphia under Decatur, blockading the Tripolitans, encountered the arriving frigate.
