A fragmentary 18th century love letter laments love and fear. The writer recalls near drowning in passion and clenched walls as affection deepens. He declares Molly an angel and admits deceit while warning he will die of love, and notes her coquettish arts and eventual fate of her beauty.
The author extols Malta and Gozo for vast rock cut ditches and natural fortifications. He notes ancient roads ending at cliff edges, suggests historic land loss, and describes Mount Etna eruptions lighting the island. He praises Maltese vigor and their unique plans and fleets.
Rock fortifications are cut into fortifications and artillery, forming immense mortars. A charge of about a barrel of gunpowder is placed under a wooden fitting, then filled with cannon balls and shells. When an enemy ship nears, the whole is fired to create a deadly shower intended to sink vessels.
A reward notice offers twenty dollars for a gold chafed Geneva watch with eagle emblem chain key red Cornelian seal and laurel wreath, currently in good order. Proclaiming party is Mr. Burd, the printer, with no questions asked, dated September.
A brief 1801 record notes an individual committed to gaol on September 5 with an August 39 date appearing in the entry, reflecting early 19th century legal notice wording.
