Perilous Kentucky Descent Toward Natchez Crime and Capture
An April 16 letter from Wilkinsonville reports Mr. Davis of Kentucky traveling with two sons and many enslaved people. The sons allegedly stole 13 of the elder Davis's slaves and money, seized his perogue, and fled at the Ohio mouth. The African laborers killed the two Davis sons, the perogue was sunk near Fort Pickering, and soldiers arrested the group, now jailed at the Bluffs guard house.
