Plan for storing sweet potatoes in dry ground pits
A farmer proposes digging shaded dry pits 3 by 9 by 4 feet to store sweet potatoes. Tubers are set after frost, covered with boards sloped to shed rain, earth banked around, and straw placed on top in severe cold. Potatoes stay dry, cool, sprout free, and usable until June or July.
