Death by Electric Shock in Brooklyn Garage
A machinist named Pierre Pollum died after an electric shock in a Williamsburg garage cellar filled with water. The insulation on an electrical cable feeding automobile batteries had been scraped, allowing current to leak into the flooded floor. Proprieter Charles Reilly and workers John Foley and another man aided Pollum. Foley suffered a severe shock but recovered with rubber gloves and a plank.

Dramatic courtroom scene in Bristol murder trial
In Bristol Virginia on September 2 the Ack Hale murder trial reached a dramatic high as state witness Mrs. Davis accused Hale from the stand. John Bruner testified Hale held and poured whiskey down the girl's throat before her death. Witnesses described abuse and coercion, while Hale’s defense hinges on death by self-inflicted actions. A closing, sobering scene followed the dying girl’s plea for home. Also notes S Riff returned from markets with dry goods bargains after a Northern Western trip.

Sufferings of Crew of Bark Prussia Wrecked in June
The American bark Prussia owned in San Francisco sailed from Norfolk March 17 with coal for San Francisco. On June 19 a storm drove it ashore near New Year Island and it broke up. Of 13 crew members, six were landed by steamer from Montevideo, four died, three survived in hospital. Captain Johnson died from exhaustion. Survivors built a small boat, endured freezing etc, and three reached New Year Island after 30 miles. Lieut. Delgado rescued them on Staten Island and they were taken to Punta Arenas.
