County Commissioners Expenditures August 1911 Georgetown

The Board met and approved $50.00 toward free hookworm dispensaries after Dr. J LaBruce Ward requested funding. Dr. Ward expects to start work in the county in October. Claims approved and ordered paid totaled $2,503.96 for the month.

Beattie Guilty Verdict Shocks Virginia Court

Twelve Virginia farmers in Chesterfield Court House returned a unanimous guilty verdict after eleven days of evidence and two days of speeches in the Henry Clay Beattie Jr. murder case. The jurors prayed for guidance as they declared Beattie guilty, hoping for a writ of error or new trial from the Court of Appeals.
