City of Naples Crew Members Die in Steam Disaster
Buffalo dispatch reports the City of Naples struck by a burst steam pipe near Long Point. Fireman Louis Hornbush and coal passer James Flanagan died after being buried by shifting coal as scalding water filled the bunkers. First Engineer Louis Fittinger survived despite immersion. The vessel, adrift until daybreak, was towed into port by Pendennis White.

Dog Meat for Mutton Reported in Greenville Slaughter Pen
Police and health officials in Greenville search for a Black man seen this morning near the Elford Street slaughter pen dressing a dog carcass with intent to sell it as mutton on the Greenville market. Health officer Whitmire has the dog’s hide. the animal is a Newfoundland. The man fled into the woods, leaving the carcass hanging from the butcher’s frame.

Terrible Sea Voyage Ends With Fire On Gintia
The Austrian steamer Gintia caught fire at sea on a Thursday after midnight. Passengers and crew faced dire danger as flames raged for about 13 hours until they gained control. Life boats were prepared and vessels’ boilers were used to extinguish the blaze. Spontaneous combustion sparked the fire in the hold.

City Council Grants Infirmary Support and Street Upgrades
