A bloodier incident near Anthras, Tennessee, reports gunfire from a crowd of intoxicated men outside a Baptist church. At least three men including John Bennett, J. W. McKinney, and Edward Thomas died at the church door, with the preacher mortally wounded and another worshipper wounded but not fatally.
Guilty of manslaughter with a recommendation for mercy was the verdict returned by the Laurens jury at 11 this morning in the Garrison murder case. Judge Memminger imposed two years at hard labor after overruling a motion for a new trial. An appeal to the Supreme Court is expected. Garrison remains free on a $5,000 bond.
