City Council met at 8 p m with Mayor and Aldermen Fraser Sian Munneryn and Brinky present. Bond offered by Georgetown Railway and Light Company rejected by city attorney. Council referred matter to the electric light committee and the speed ordinance to the ordinance committee. New Health Board appointees chosen and bonds of plumbers approved. Fire Department asked for 65 for annual celebration and approved. Various bills paid. Mayor leased Mason lot on Front Street for three years as public wagon yard. Adjourned. Afterword discusses postwar debt policy and bond issuance trends.

Claims throne by old king’s son in New York interview
John George Guelph, who claims to be the eldest son of the late King Edward VII, appeared at 106 Montague Street, New York, asserting he is King of England and Emperor of the British Empire. He read a cablegram to King George V and insisted his position remains his rightful claim, while his wife and the princess spoke of his suffering and parentage revealed from a prior marriage Queen Victoria had disapproved.

Great naval fighter launched at New York yard
The battleship Florida slid from the ways at the New York navy yard with 50,000 spectators present including the Vice President and the Secretary of the Navy. The ship is about 60 percent complete and will be surpassed in size by the Arkansas and Wyoming when finished. Miss Elizabeth Fleming christened the ship with champagne and proclaimed Go brave ship, I christen thee Florida. The launch was described as the most successful ever held at that yard and the vessel was guided by navy tugs to Cobb dock after entering the river.

Asheville May 12 The general conference committees of the Methodist Church South met all afternoon with reports on internal relations time limits and women equal rights stirring discussion. Bishops and connectional officers may be elected early as many laymen need to leave for engagements. Rev J C Kilgo of the North Carolina conference is practically certain to be elected bishop on the 61st ballot.
