A mass meeting of leading merchants condemned banners and streamers advertising mass price slaughters on sidewalks calling them a nuisance. They urged the City Council to abate the nuisance and levy a $50 daily license on foreign sale agencies to operate in Georgetown.
An American seaman named Payne reports Capt Collin Stephenson and the crew of the whaling ship Carrie D Knowles were captured in distress off Venezuela five years ago and imprisoned there. Authorities in Kingston are investigating after Payne's claim, noting the ship was long thought lost.
At a meeting last evening the School Board reelected the same corps of teachers as last year save for Annie Wisanski who filled the vacancy caused by Kate Montgomery's resignation at the Winyah Graded School. Constantinople witnessed public executions this morning as twenty four mutineers of the army and navy were hanged within the city. This brings the total executions in the capital since the April eighteenth revolution to thirty eight, with four near the Sultan's Palace eight at the marine barracks eight in the Djinzi Meidan quarter of Stamboul and four at the war office.
