Execution at county jail ends in crowd and rope spectacle
In Georgetown a man named Jack Blake was hanged for killing Jim Green after a two year lapse. About 1500 spectators gathered outside the jail. the trap was sprung at 11 31 attempts by L Poniatowski testing the rope. Drs Clark and Sawyer pronounced Blake dead at 11 45. The crowd filed past the corpse and pieces of the rope were prized as mementos.
