Mother of Eight Murdered in Newport News Home

Mrs. Ida Virginia Belote a widow and mother of eight was found murdered at her Creek avenue Hamton home. A 13 year old daughter Harriet discovered the scene blood marked rooms overturned furniture and a brutal struggle ended with blows to the head and a towel forced into her mouth. Police tied the motive to a threatened arrest of Virginia Christian a neighbor for clothing theft and a purse matching the deceased was found on the suspect along with a bloody waist.
