Fire at Harrison College Kills Three Students in Abbeville
In Abbeville on March 17 a fire destroyed Harrison college main building, a negro institution run by northern whites. Three students died and five more were seriously hurt after jumping from the second story. Investigators smelled kerosene, amid long standing race tensions over the college presidency.
Annual inspection of Georgetown Rifle Guards set for Friday
The Georgetown Rifle Guards will hold their annual inspection Friday at 4 PM on the parade ground by the Armory at Prince and Screven streets. Lieut. Benne th of Fort McPherson and Col. Brock of the South Carolina Adjutant General staff will judge in heavy marching order, with visiting officers Col. Cogswell Major Silcox and Capt. Schroder present. The City Band will provide music and a prize drill for three officers medals will occur during the exercises. Public invited.
