Oconee County Tragedy Ends in Homicide

In Oconee County two Black men, George Simpson and George Singleton, fought on a public road about twelve miles above Walhalla. Singleton died from severe head injuries. Georgetown reports record lumber exports from Atlantic Coast Lumber Corporation to New York and northern points. The steamship Aragon cleared for New York with 1.5 million feet, the most ever moved from Georgetown, navigating the new western channel of Winyah Bay. Other ships followed with 760 thousand, 1.25 million, and 580 thousand feet respectively, all record loads. The Aragon's 1.5 million feet were loaded in thirty hours, averaging 50 thousand feet per hour.
