Prof. J. M. Burgess explains two methods to maintain year round green feed for cows. Grow rye, wheat, oats, sorghum or corn for seasonal feeding or store green forage in airtight silos. Silos, brick to wood, hold feed and exclude air, with costs about 1 to 2 dollars per ton capacity and 2 to 4 dollars per ton including growing.
A visitor reports rapid progress by the Georgetown Farm Land and Development Company on 180000 acres. In Columbia on June 26 J W Messervey a white convict serving twenty years for manslaughter killed Van Clanton a negro serving ten years for manslaughter at the State Penitentiary. A shovel was the weapon and both men had long been incarcerated for manslaughter. Messervey says Clanton cut him first as they cleaned the barber shop under the hospital and Messervey struck with a shovel in self defense.
