A city meeting at City Hall tonight seeks support for forming a company to build a canning factory, cotton gin, and grist mill near the city limits. The project promises home industry, jobs, and a boost to farm products and county prosperity.

Washington May 31 The conference on the river appropriation bill reports a net reduction of 705500 from the Senate's figure 847710 Most cuts are small except 200000 for Beaumont Neches Canal Texas 260000 for Green River dam Kentucky and 75000 for Missouri River improvement at Lake Contrary All three were struck from the bill The 50000 expense appropriation for the International Navigation Congress was restored The Senate's amendment to extend the life of the national ways commission beyond March 4 1911 was rejected
Divers report the French submarine Plaviese crushed after collision with the Pas de Calais off Calais on May 31. All 27 crew members drowned as wreck depth and undertow hinder lift efforts. The ship will be chained and towed shoreward by stages, awaiting low water over about ten days.
A brief notice announces the Steamer Mitchell C. will leave on a scheduled voyage. The message references Conway and Georgetown and uses archaic phrasing to indicate timing in June at an unspecified hour.

Eye witness was a small boy. coroner's inquest pins the double murder on Robinson, who fled and has not yet been captured. He had worked in the Southern Railroad yards at Augusta and had been living with Willie Brown.
Col Roosevelt attended a city government meeting at Guild Hall where American and English business leaders joined officials in uniform on the platform. Sir Joseph Dimsdale presented a gold casket bearing the freedom of the city, with panels illustrating Guild Hall, the Mansion House, St Pauls, and Tauser Bridge, framed by emblems of England, the United States, the city, and the Union Jack. Sir John O Knill hosted a private luncheon afterward.
Patrick T. Gibbons a former South St. Paul police chief turned commission man shot dead his wife and Father E. T. Walsh pastor of St. Augustin's church. He said he felt happier and at peace after the killings and surrendered at police headquarters. Father Walsh served five years as pastor and was 36.
