Columbia July 14 Governor Blease declares he will remove members of county boards of control who bought goods from houses defrauding the State under the dispensary system unless they give sound excuses. Blackmail Plan Tragedy Rocks Jeanette Store

In Jeanette Virginia a wholesale fruit dealer George Lebarto fired on Italian barber Veni Cecilano after a Black Hand extortion letter signaled the demand. Four shots hit Cecilano and Lebarto’s daughter lost a finger as she appealed for mercy. Cecilano died later in hospital. Lebarto fled and was later identified by eight Black Hand letters seized from his daughter.

Improving Georgetown Road Gains State Road Work

County Supervisor W P Cantwell reports progress on repairing and improving the Georgetown Charleston highway. Legislature allocates funds for grading and shelling sections from Mazyck's Ferry to Charleston and from Awendaw Bridge toward Charleston.
