Carrie Nation the saloon smasher arrived in Washington and wrecked the Union Station bar. She was fined in police court and paid her attorney Matthew E. O'Brien with a check that was cashed by a friend and an accommodated saloon keeper. Now a seventh street saloon poster reproduces the check with the caption We cash Carrie Nation's checks.

Columbia January 23 A legislative letter from Ritter Ap pelt state senator from Clarendon county notes that a state wide prohibition bill is unlikely this session unless the Senate changes. He reports at least 23 will not vote for a state wide measure, some Prohibitionists among them, who backed the last compromise but oppose it now. He says these men will campaign for a statewide bill next summer.
