Attorneys Seek Bail for Avant in Murrel Case

In Washington Avant and co defendant Bigham seek bail before the Supreme Court. Florence lawyer Ragsdale and Georgetown lawyer Hazard appeared for Avant while Attorney General Lyon represented the State. Justice Gary ordered Wells’ argument and related affidavit.

Georgetown Baseball Plans for 1910 Season

Minutes of a public meeting at City Hall January 26 1910 set up a committee to organize a Georgetown Base Ball Association for the year and to study forming a State League or independent club. The result promised better ball in 1910, with Iredell Hilliard as chairman and E L Lloyd L Brinkley and H J Harrigan named to the organizing committee.

In South Norwalk Connecticut on January 26 religious followers gathered in prayer after a meteor fell near Broad River and a burning aerolite hole appeared in a truck garden. Dust lay at the bottom, and believers view the event as a heavenly sign signaling an impending end of the world.

Georgetown City Council Meets in January 1910

The Georgetown South Carolina city council held a regular meeting on January 26 1910 at 8 30 p m in the council chamber. Present were Mayor pro tem Hony H W Fraser and aldermen Siau Munnerlyn and Brinkley. A letter from Mrs George Easton about a fountain near Front Street by the Loyal Temperance Union was referred to the Street Committee. An ordinance for fire life and property protection passed to first reading. The meeting adjourned.
