Our New York Letter on Beecher Memorial Unveiling
Our regular correspondent recalls Henry Ward Beecher and his enduring legacy as Plymouth Church plans a $1,000,000 memorial. Eight stained glass windows have been unveiled, and a block of memorial buildings is proposed including a crypt and a museum. The pulpit and chair of Beecher, once hidden, were displayed on the platform after 88 years. A sea captain’s BeecherLife trip story is noted.

Plymouth Church Ties to Holy Land Olive Tree Pulpit
In Jerusalem Moses Beach arranged transport for an olive tree trunk from the Mount of Olives to Joppa. Back in Brooklyn Stephen M Griswold and Beecher rebuilt Plymouth Church pulpit from the Holy Land wood. Beecher later moved the old pulpit to his Peekskill home and the chair lingered in the church cellar.
