A patient with neck swelling was suffocating at Hillman hospital when Dr. W. H. Wilder, surgeon for the Frisco railroad, quickly opened the throat with a knife. A silver tube was inserted to aid breathing and the patient began recovering.

Chester January 18 two negro convicts on the Chester County chain gang were killed when dynamite ignited while being prepared for blasting near the York road camp five and a half miles from the city. Guard E Schulte was injured as were two white youths and a convict named Eli Gill. Doctors McConnell and Wallace rushed to the scene and expressed hope for saving Schulte's eye. No blame was found on Superintendent McKeown or guards.
The Frankfurter Zeitung reports that Dr. Frederick A. Cook has arranged for a strictly incognito stay at a sanitarium near Heilbrunn. The explorer's health is said to have been seriously affected by recent events. No details are given about who arranged the visit, Cook's current location, or his arrival date.
Georgetown County commissioners announce bids for erecting the County Line Fence at Oak Grove Store. Bidders must haul wire set posts stretch four barb wire strands and remove surplus wire to Outland. Bond equal to a quarter of contract required. Board may reject any bid. January 17 1910.
