The 1911 violence death toll shows a decline from 1910 with 8,272 homicides in the nation. Italian Warships Sink Seven Turkish Gunboats in Red Sea

Rome reports a January 17 naval battle outside Kunfida Bay in the Red Sea where Italian cruisers Piemonte and destroyers Garibaldino and Artigliere destroyed seven Turkish gunboats and a Turkish armed yacht. Turkish vessels offered feeble resistance as Italians rescued many sailors while the Fauvette survived.
