Appointment fills unexpired term as grand keeper
Grand Chancellor Mendall L. Smith of Camden announced in Columbia that C. D. Brown of Abbeville is appointed to fill the unexpired term of the late Rev. Dr. J. H. Thornwell as grand keeper of records and seals of the Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias. The term runs until the May Grand Lodge meeting. Brown, a distinguished Pythian, chairs the Grand Lodge Ways and Means committee.

Drainage survey secured near Columbia area
Washington January 7 Congressman Lever arranged with the department of agriculture to survey twenty thousand acres from near Columbia through fourteen miles down the Congaree on the east bank. The year will see a complete study with plans and best methods to protect bottom lands from overflow and standing water. Landowners bear the cost. government provides expert advice only. Similar projects at Charleston and Georgetown proved highly valuable and this Columbia area project will serve as a statewide model.
