Fort Worth December 30 Brooke E. Smith a Brownwood banker will be hung in effigy next Monday for losing a bet that the Fort Worth and Rio Grande line would reach Brownwood by January 1. The 20 mile line is already completed. A scaffold is rising for the mock execution and a banquet for about two hundred capitalists will follow with high railroad officials and prominent citizens in attendance.

December 20 Dillon report says Frank Nurnsee, superintendent of the Dillon Oil mill, was shot in the hip by Joe Higgins, a drunk mill worker who returned with a double-barrel shotgun after being reprimanded. The small number 8 shot caused a serious wound but may not have penetrated the cavity. Higgins was arrested and confined in the guard house amid community relief.
