Columbia reports Senator B. R. Tillman was rendered speechless in Washington this morning. Dr. Babcock has been wired to join him, while Mrs. Tillman remains beside her husband. McCaw.
Edgefield mothers sent a wreath of white hyacinths to B R Tillman in Washington by express this morning. Rumor says Mrs Lucy Dugas Tillman and the two children may return to Edgefield by week’s end. The community plans a mass greeting with a band from Augusta and a reception at a prominent resident’s home.

Petitioners seek clemency for Hamp James serving a life term in the Marion county penitentiary for the 1903 murder of Handy Bethea. They claim Dillon dispensary liquor corrupted James, rendering him “crazy drunk,” and that South Carolina’s liquor law contributed to the homicide. Governor Ansel is reviewing the petition after six years served.
Harry McCormick third officer of the United Fruit steamer Santa Marta reported finding a town of 5 000 deserted with no staff in cafes bakeries tobacco shops and groceries. He fled to the ship where the populace gathered aboard with a brass band, leaving the capital’s commerce silent.

Hinsdale physician Dr Daniel E Pearsons plans a general distribution of his fortune on his 90th birthday April 14. He has given away about 4 million dollars over decades and will earmark gifts to colleges in the West and poor southern areas, not to individuals.
In Columbia on February 17 the House passed by 100 to 3 a joint resolution to amend the Constitution to permit a federal income tax. No discussion occurred and it is believed Senator Bailey of Texas influenced the vote. The measure moves to the Senate tomorrow.
Paul H. Jones was accidentally shot while riding to a hunting field when his dog pressed the shotgun trigger with its paw. The load struck his arm, risking loss of a hand and part of the arm. President Joseph S. Davis of the Albany Trust Company narrowly avoided death from the charge.
