Featherstone and Blease Lead in State Democratic Primary

In yesterday's state Democratic primary, Cole Blease leads for Governor with 23,478 votes, followed by C. Featherstone at 21,791 and T. G. McLeod at 18,68. Blease and Featherstone appear set for a second primary, while Smith is expected to win Lieutenant Governor with 39,003 to Duval's 31,615. Other races show Ellerbe leading in the 6th Congressional contest with 6,636 versus Hodges 3,262, Sellers 1,867, Brown 2,492. Georgetown County reports a landslide for Ellerbe, Hemingway, and Dorrit. local city tallies list Johnson 497, Sawyer 479, Doar 478, and Josiah Doar 502.

Woman shoots self in Hotel Astor waiting room

In New York a young woman, about 25, shot herself in the Hotel Astor waiting room last night and was rushed to Flower Hospital in serious condition. She refused to identify herself, clutching a typewritten manuscript titled Thessalia and leaving letters with signature illegible, fueling theories of unrequited ambition and possible authorship disappointment.

O Rourke will meet Taft in Washington in late September for possible action before Christmas with a verdict for the nation.

Government urged to aid O Rourke in Maine cleanup drive

The government is asked to provide men tugs and other assistance to cooperate with O Rourke forces in lifting Maine from mud and water. He says work can be done within the 3000000 appropriation made by Congress. A commission is to study plans and report when Taft and O Rourke meet in Washington.

An advertisement asserts deafness from inflamed Eustachian tube can only be cured by constitutional remedies and offers 100 dollars for any case of deafness due to catarrh that Hall's Catarrh Cure cannot treat. It promotes circulars from F. J. Cheney & Co. Toledo and lists druggists at 75. It also mentions fake vials for constipation.
