Thomas Lavelle of Girardville shot his sister Mary Lavelle as she slept in her bed in Pittsville Pa and then shot himself in the head. He is believed to have been temporarily insane. Mary was found with a bullet wound in her temple.
A unidentified seventeen year old youth was found dead Tuesday at Pearl River near Haliday's canal, New Orleans after eating a poisoned watermelon laced with strychnine to deter trespassers. The victim drank from the river and collapsed beside the water.
A call goes out to raise the drainage fund beyond the asked amount with a goal of 50. A young subscriber, barely twenty, gave $1 amid hopes supervisors and the Times editor will contribute. Florence Georgetown Marion Darl ington and Horry are urged to act to support a complete drainage system and parallel forest preservation education.
In Port Vue near Pittsburgh, a landslide endangers about 25 homes as the hillside slips toward a new railroad cut. Homes crack and chimneys sink while residents flee. mains gas and water lines rupture, plunging part of the village into darkness as the slope slides 300 feet.
In Pensacola Florida a man identified as W H Hill and a woman dressed as a man were arrested after boarding the Tarpon bound for Mobile. The pair had arrived Sunday and were detained after a deputy sheriff noted the disguise. The woman admitted she was female and claimed to be Hill’s son before revealing her sex. They say Hill planned to make Mobile home and that they married. Police hold them pending further inquiry.
In a New Jersey hotel dining room, Robert S. Gravatt, 47, shot his wife Irene, wounding their nine year old daughter Mollie who shielded her mother, before killing himself. Domestic trouble is cited as the motive. Gravatt owned the hotel and a store in Asbury Park.
John D Rockefeller faces scrutiny over a 73.95 bill for testimony in the Standard Oil suit. The government demands a starting point for travel and itemization, noting Pittsfield, Massachusetts as the summons point and Chicago as the destination.

A Castalia Ohio man Jack Mack aged 23 a girl Barbara Kraft 16 and Frederick Wahl aged 3 have fully recovered from meningitis after treatment with the new anti meningitis serum. Doctors say the cure proves the disease can be conquered and note rapid improvement after injection. The serum came from New York via Dr George T Ladd of Western Reserve Medical College and was tested in Castalia with careful follow up.
A carload of bananas and apples was received today by Messrs B F Jones and Son who plan to sell cheaply to retail dealers in the city.
