In Wilmington on August 10 a deadly blaze at the Rocky Spring Hotel and boarding house led to the arrest of J C Holly, proprietor and former Sanctification preacher. The seriously burned victim was 19 year old Edward Cromwell, found in his room with kerosene-soaked bedding. A transfer of Cromwell’s $2,500 policy to Holly was signed hours before the fire, and investigators plan further coroner and inquest proceedings.
