Paul Gilmore and supporters drew one of the largest crowds at the Armory Opera House for The Mummy and the Humming Bird. The play, though unconventional and ethically debated, showcased strong performances led by Gilmore and Unger as Guiseppi with a gripping vendetta.
Mrs. Bertha Reid Wells of Peekskill New York insists her sister Miss Estelle Reid was murdered in Naples Italy. She cites Estelle in love with art not men and defends her sister as fearless and capable of self defense while noting Italy’s cheap view of life and calling for a government inquiry.

Columbia April 30. The DuPont Powder Company applied for domestication to start a large distillery at Georgetown May list to produce ethyl alcohol from Atlantic Coast Lumber Corporation wood waste. Secretary of State McCown says approval awaits properly filed papers.
Columbia April 28 report that F H Hyatt of Columbia life insurance general agent and prominent Methodist may enter the race for governor, joining C L Blease T G McLeod and C C Featherstone as Methodists pursuing the office. Prohibition splits and church politics loom as anti saloon leaders oppose Hyatt while urging focus on Senate control for statewide prohibition.

Georgetown and Western Rail Road Company announces participation in reduced rates on certificate plan for the Diocesan Council P E Church of South Carolina meeting in Sumter May 3 through 6 1910 Certificates must be secured from the Georgetown agent when purchasing tickets to entitle the purchaser to the reduced return trip rate.
Georgetown Rebekah Lodge No. 81 plans a box lunch party at the hall Tuesday night May 3. Each lady brings a lunch box for two, numbered and sold at the fish pond for 50 cents for ladies boxes and 25 cents for girls boxes. Lemonade and coffee served free, with a musical program and grab bag. Family invited.
