Reed to Die in Electric Chair for Attempted Assault
William Reed, a colored farmer from Dean Station County, was found guilty of attempting to assault a woman and sentenced to die in the electric chair at the State Penitentiary in Columbia on July 12. A special term of court allowed a speedy trial with three local lawyers defending Reed who testified he entered the room to steal money for corn. A mob gathered outside the jail after the verdict but did not act. Reed refused to speak after sentencing.

Man Auctions Nonexistent Money in St Louis Crowd
