A two am blaze at Cornish & Co distillery four miles from Pedara Ill caused 750000 damage to the plant and endangered six thousand nearby homes. The basement held 40000 gallons of high priced wine and an explosion was feared. A pen of 500 cattle also faced risk as flames continued at six am.
Horace A. McKittrick stock broker of Brookfield Missouri died after a rear end Burlington Road crash near Spanish Lake. He amputated his leg with a dull jack knife under wreckage while steam filled his face. Rev R C Allen of Grove City Pa led the operation. Four others injured as a passenger train hit a freight train. McKittrick died later at a hospital.
