James G Henning reports a large and well selected stock arriving by steamer. The assortment includes whitewelsh plains, kerseys, plushes, carpets, cottons, linens, prints, muslins, shawls, laces, button etc. Also a wide range of groceries and hardware items with notes of October 19, 1839.
The advertisement notes fresh flour in various forms, crackers, butter, cheese, lard, fish, sausage, syrups, cordials, tobacco, candles, soap, potatoes and more for sale by Aug 24. The mill near Georgetown, 28 miles from Georgetown and 8 miles below Picketts Mill, sits opposite Timber Dock on the Waccamaw River. Orders for sawn lumber are promised with dispatch and cheap rates. A partial advertisement lists various goods including flour beans cheese lard crackers soup and beverages such as champagne brandy gin and wine. It notes sale by October 5 and carries a merchants name CONGDON.
Subscribers organize a new firm under Sarrwoop and Kraser to conduct a general mercantile business. They have purchased John Ralston’s entire stock and will offer a wide assortment at favorable terms from the Brock Range Bay Street store. Davin P. Gorton advertises private sale of 200 acres at Poplarhill plus a store, two stables, a dwelling suited for a tavern, and outbuildings. If not sold by December 1 the property goes to auction without reserve. small remnant goods and items also listed. Creditors urged to settle promptly as business consolidates in South Carolina. unsettled cases will be pursued. August 24 31.
