Old Settlers Meeting at Bishop Hill Reflects Swedish Roots
The gathering recalls Bishop Hill founders from Sweden, their school and English learning, workers and families, and a 13 year socialistic community. The event featured a church, town hall, brewery and a housing complex, with talks tracing early land entries, settlers like James Withrow, and Bishop Hill’s growth into Henry County by 1850, including land purchases for the colony.
