Social events suffer attendance due to storms, while Zion church may host a 10c sociable. A paralysis incident near Burns prompts medical aid and a store planned for Janith. Farmers Institute set for Galva, February 14–15.

Quarterly meeting in Erie on Sunday causes no local preaching. Timmerman and wife and W V Timmerman of Erie visited last Sunday. Fred Reiger sold his house to Jas Smith who will move in soon. Forty Reiger to move gates Feb 1 and purchase W H Fuller residence. Elzie Thomas rents a farm on Pink Prairie and will move to Henry county. Crops and livestock marketed at Erle and Prophetstown. Walter Rose of Mazon visits, Otis Felner travels to Grand Rapids as a bookkeeper, enrollment sits at 130 in regular attendance, and 1500 copies of the Normal Worker were distributed, 800 to Henry county post offices.
On Thursday January 1 1898 Mr and Mrs Valentine Geratner near the city celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary with seventy five friends and relatives. A morning of social amusements preceded a grand dinnerJoyful remarks by Rev J Stengel followed. Guests presented gifts including money and silverware from many neighbors and relatives.
