Fire at Petersbourg palace threatens royal wing

A blaze erupted during the evening near the Catholic Majesty after his hunting at Pawlar. The fire consumed the roof and upper floor of the palace section adjoining the right wing to the chapel, but was then brought under control with no fear of spread to adjacent areas. The king attended mass earlier to pray for fallen soldiers, an annual wartime custom.

Prisoner Attempts Escape From Newgate By Chimney

Newcastle reports a recent escape attempt by Hill, a prisoner committed to Newgate for London burglaries. In a cell with two other felons, he threatened them with a knife, pulled down a brick fireplace, and tried to climb the chimney. Guards intervened and the convict was secured in Medvy irons.
