Turkish Relief Forces Break Siege of Silistria

On Saturday January 29 reports say Ruffians could not quell the garrison at Silistria. Hafsan Pacha arrived with cavalry to cut off convoys and then charged the Russian cavalry, scattering them and prompting the General to lift the siege and retreat across the Danube. South shore cleared of enemies. Russians left magazines behind. Turks emboldened by success and better armed, making conquest harder ahead.
