War council condemns officers for disobedience at Lille
A Paris despatch reports a Council of War at Lisle condemning thirty three officers of a regiment for refusing to serve under a Lieutenant Colonel. Some are to be dismissed or imprisoned, others notified for an indeterminate period. The Major is re established. the Lieutenant Colonel faces three months arrest for challenging royal authority. The Marquis de Montegnard ordered disposals of vacant posts to favor those who obeyed. Eighteen officers were sent to prisons, and nineteen were placed elsewhere. The officers, though harshly treated, are praised for courage and blamed only for disobeying a commander they disliked.
