Tires and Tools Stolen From Parked Trucks
Sheriff's deputies investigate thefts across multiple locations. A spare tire and rim plus $200 in tools were taken from a pickup at 2511 Mears Drive in front of the Loudermills residence. Clyde Lykins reported $250 in tools and the tire stolen from his front curb, likely over the weekend. Richard Mitchell reported a tire and rim stolen from 2517 Jackson Drive. Additional autos at Lowrey Clinic on North Lutherloc Street saw glove compartments rummaged over three days, with no major items missing. A burglary Sunday in Turnersville left a rock collection, old books, a record cabinet and an ice box missing from an unoccupied house. Two bicycles found abandoned near the Leon River bridge on West Main Street Monday.

Gillen Wins Damage Suit in Gatesville
Coryell County jury ruled for defendant Charles James Gillen of Lampasas in a 26000 damage suit filed by Florine Mayes and FE Mayes Jr. of Gatesville over a two car collision at Main and Sixth Streets Aug. 22. Jury found Mayes negligent. no damages awarded after four and a half hours deliberation over a three day trial. A separate $6000 damage suit Clemons v Lange and Poston Feed Mills was settled after jury panel was assembled in 52nd Court. The first U. S. government building was mentioned.

Seward Rites Held After Corpus Christi Hospital Death
Funeral services followed a short illness for Powell Seward’s father in Corpus Christi hospital. He was born in Coryell County, son of the late Ophelia and Wiley Seward. Survivors include his wife of Corpus Christi, a son Powell Seward of Gatesville, five daughters including Mrs. Herman Granberry of Lanett Georgia and Mrs. Sam Owens of Elizabeth North Carolina, four step-daughters, twenty-four grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
