Howard Franks M M Cap Williams and Allen Graham were named as members of the citys tax equalization board for 1972. Mayor Bob Miller indicated one or two more members may be added to the board.
Gatesville council hears plan to transfer vacant city tracts on East Bridge Street to Gatesville Housing Authority for 15 additional low rent units. HUD funds denied previously, refiled with stronger data. zoning change to community facility rejected amid neighborhood opposition. Ward resigns from planning commission. Charles Massey named to replace Silas Callins.
Seven defendants waived arraignment and await trial on charges including murder with a motor vehicle burglary theft destruction of private property possession of narcotic paraphernalia marijuana and more. John R. Pence to be tried June 29 five more defendants scheduled for July 10. Dismissal of defrauding with worthless check against Mrs. Raymond Birk noted.
At a Coryell County Home Management Service board meeting held at Chateau Ville Gatesville directors reported 44 families aided since February 16 with 792 service hours across Copperas Cove Gatesville Fort Hood Evant Flat Pearl and Jonesboro. New staff include Mrs Roy Truckabee and Mrs Sue Napper and immunization outreach with the Health Department. Ike Tfall announced the Cove office move to Avenue E6 and 1st Street in July. Coleman Young discussed nutrition funds and senior recreation sites in Bell and Coryell counties.
Maples Lodge No 791 will install its 1972 73 officers in an open ceremony Saturday at 8 p.m. in the lodge hall at Flat. Installed are A J Smith worshipful master Hubert Hallmark senior warden William Truss junior warden Howard J Hitt secretary Pat Hopson treasurer D D A Smith senior deacon Lise Shelton junior deacon S W Blanchard senior steward J T Blanchard junior steward W M Price chaplain J C Vantiler. Howard Hitt served as master in 1971 72.
Pollard recalls soldiers paying $1.50 or more for haircuts while stationed elsewhere. He worked from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. six days a week during busy times. He notes the workload did not affect his health.
Ramsey Muniz, candidate for governor on the Raza Unida ticket, will be in Waco Saturday to attend a Lake Waco Marina picnic starting at 1 p.m. A local RUP member invites everyone interested in Muniz's candidacy to attend.
Paul Pollard, Gatesville barber for 50 years, recalls early methods with hot water baths and overhead electric clippers. He swapped shaving for haircuts as natural gas ended the bath trade, reflects on shifts in equipment, and notes four generations served by his chair. He and his wife attend First Baptist Church and cherish a family of six grandchildren.
