Medical Plastics Lab Opens New Plant in Gatesville
Gatesville's Medical Plastics Laboratory opened its new $75,000 office and manufacturing plant on FM 116 hosting 700 visitors for open house. The facility produces authentic anatomical reproductions, mainly plastic skulls and skeletons, with dedication by Charles Wise and Rev. Gary Brown. Mayor Bob Miller cut the ribbon, and visitors toured the plant through the afternoon.

Farm Bureau Queen Contest Set for June 17 in Gatesville
Coryell County hosts the annual Farm Bureau queen contest and talent find on Saturday June 17 at the Gatesville High School auditorium. Sign-up closes Friday June 9. Eligible contestants ages 16 to 22 who are single and related to a Farm Bureau member may register. talent entrants need not be members. The winner advances to a district contest. Gatesville water well motor burns out halting production
As heavy water use begins pushing demand past one million gallons daily, Gatesville’s 200-hp well motor at Water Well No. 5 burned out. City Manager Jim Walker asks residents to conserve water for about a week to ten days until a replacement motor, costing around 3500 dollars, is installed. Three other wells remain in operation to meet needs.

Coin Thieves Score $500 Haul At Shepherd Home
A theft at the C. C. Shepherd home in Gatesville involved about 500 dollars in coins stored in fishing tackle boxes. A neighbor saw a man and a woman enter the house Thursday and stay inside a while before Mrs. Shepherd reported the missing coins. Sheriff’s deputies have filed theft charges against two Gatesville men.

Lemmons Farewell Era Ends as Jonesboro Pays Tribute

Gatesville High School honored 1971 72 seniors at commencement for the Class of 1972. Seventy two scholarship recipients were announced including Baylor University football and track awards for Jim Saunders and Ricky Thompson, plus Tex A&M and other sponsors. $3.1 Million Bid on Highway 190 Road Work
Allen Construction Co of San Antonio and Watkins Bridge Co of Uvalde submitted the apparent lowest bid of 3.1 million for a section of Highway 190 from Copperas Cove to the west gate of Fort Hood. The Texas Highway Commission opened six bids and will likely award next week. The project marks phase three of the four lane divided highway, not including service roads, with total planned Highway 190 work under contract at 158 million. The route will run from Copperas Cove to Nolanville and Harker Heights, with future extensions toward Belton. Copperas Cove could not finance drainage structures, shifting some plans.

Free Immunization Clinic Sunday Afternoon
Free shots for preschool children will be given Sunday afternoon in the high school dining hall, the last in a series of three immunization clinics. Hours are 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The vaccines include DPT polio rubella and measles. State law requires immunization. The clinic is free and run by the State Health Department with help from the Statesville Jaycees and Parent Teachers Association. Fifty children received shots at each of the first two clinics.
