Gatesville Jaycee Rodeo Opens Three Night Run
Gatesville counts down Western Week with a space age rodeo at Firemen's arena beginning Thursday night through Saturday. Producer Loyd Woodley promises seven events including bareback riding calf and steer roping wild cow milking barrel racing steer wrestling and bull riding. Grand entries at 8 p m each night with Eiland Lovejoy announcing. Special prizes include a $300 all round cow boy saddle and engraved belt buckles for event averages. Miss Charlotte Mitchell rodeo sweetheart will ride on grand entries. Western Week features downtown decor prize and floats in Thursday parade beginning 4 p m with Fort Hood band and horsemen.

Rain lifts Coryell crops as 2 inch shower saves outlook
Coryell County enjoyed a general two inch rain Monday night with Copperas Cove recording 3.2 inches. Farmers called the moisture a crop saver and praised the soaking from a squall line spanning from the Mexican border to Oklahoma. The rain boosted cotton, maize and corn while oats and wheat harvests were affected. county agent LeRoy Hoermann cited an unusually light oat yield but an expected average wheat yield of 12 to 15 bushels per acre.

City to Issue $245000 Bonds for Sewage Plant

160 Girl Scouts Open Day Camp at Fort Hood Site

Couple Injured In 2 Car Crash On South 23rd Street
James Francis Box and his wife were hurt when their new 1962 station wagon collided head on with J C Tennison’s car on South 23rd Street near Hwy 36 at 9 15 p m Saturday. Their four year old son James was uninjured. Mrs Box suffered a broken arm and kneecap with facial cuts while Box had scalp lacerations and heavy bruises. Both remain in Coryell Memorial Hospital. Tennison escaped with minor hurts. Police estimate Tennison’s damage at 500 to 700 dollars.

Bill Hill Hit By Car Tuesday on downtown square
Bill Hill, 54, of Gatesville, was hospitalized after a car strike on the downtown square at 7 p m Tuesday. He stood on Leon Street near the courthouse when Miss Myrtle Latham of Gatesville, driving slowly on Leon, pulled around a parked pickup and struck him, knocking him unconscious and sending him to the hospital. he remained there Thursday morning.
