Miss Joyce Macy led the Gatesville High School 89 member senior class at Friday commencement, winning three medals for salutatorian commercial work and standout band membership. Four other seniors earned two awards each, including Linda Gayle Dyess, Don Russell, John Fulton, and Dickie Franks for various achievements. Troops Set for Hood Encampment This Summer
North Fort Hood will host 5,400 troops this weekend as National Guard and Army Reserve units begin two week summer training. The 90th Infantry Division under Brig. Gen. James E. Rudder and the 112th Armored Cavalry Regiment will arrive, part of a total 36,000 soldiers slated to train at Hood through September. Other units include the 36th and 49th Divisions, 406th Engineer Brigade, military government units, the 45th and 95th Infantry Divisions.

Death in Copperas Cove Ruled Suicide by Gunshot
The body of Boney Shafer, 70, was found in a shed behind his Copperas Cove home. Sheriff reports a shotgun wound to the left chest and a 12 gauge shotgun nearby. A verdict of death by personal safety related gunshot wounds was returned. He had been ill last year and leaves a wife, two sons, two daughters, and eight grandchildren.
