Large weekend string of minor auto accidents in Gary area
Heavy traffic over the weekend caused numerous minor crashes across Gary and Hammond. Vehicles owned by Henry Peterson and Dan Gore collided at Washington Street and Eighth Avenue, another collision near Seventh Avenue and Broadway involved a Ford driven by M Dettrick and an Oldsmobile owned by R Narcovich. AEROPLANE WRECK AT SHEFFIELD AVENUE CRASH
Captain Frank Kemp, an ex army aviator, carried passengers from a Sheffield field. With a gusty wind the plane became unmanageable and headed for telephone poles. Kemp forced the craft toward a pole, the pole broke, and the plane crashed. Kemp and the passenger survived with minor injuries and a few scratches. The passenger reportedly cried after getting his money back.
