Last night at 10 30 a blaze broke out in a four family building at 4848 Baringave owned by Frank Pudle. The fire started in the rear first floor apartment of Wm Starzinski and spread to the upstairs unit of Walter Budz. Firemen quickly laid streams of water on the rear end and saved much of the structure with no damage to adjacent buildings. No damage estimate yet but largely insured.

Early morning on the Monon track in Hammond a car driven by Shi Nick Waratich, wife of a Pansing man, struck a train, causing head injuries and internal damage. The Maraniths who were near their wash on Tightland street were also struck by the same train and rushed to St Warrets hospital with serious injuries.

A dispatch from Bucharest reports French troops and Greek forces reinforce Sebastopol in South Russia to defend the city at all costs after a combat with Ukrainian Soviet troops who outnumbered the allies seven to one.
April 12 report from Cologne says Ruhr district workers rejected a seven hour workday offer. The Spartacists allied with the German workers are conducting an all German campaign using air power.
Portand Ore January 12 An International News Service report says a woman detained in Portland confessed involvement in a scheme to smuggle opium across the Canadian border into the United States. She offered opium for 90 dollars a dose and claimed the disguise fools men.
A west bound local freight train struck an auto truck on Fifth Avenue in Gary near Broadwis, reducing the vehicle to kindling. Diver John Johnson escaped injury.
International News Service reports six months of private inquiry into Amboy Ind Bank losses. John H Kendall, former bank cashier, is sought by Chicago delegates amid a bank deficit of about 97 000 with a receiver now running the bank. Speculation centers on oil stocks and an auto firm. Kendall’s alleged misappropriation is tied to negotiable bonds. Morgan & Co denial follows on Japanese steamship line funding interest.
